Watchers

Welcome all to 2012. Seeing as the last entry has had a good four month run I thought I'd put a fresh roll of 8 exposure Ilford HP5 into my journal.

What does 2012 hold? Atleast two more rolls of 120 film currently sitting half used in my pair of medium format folders. Hopefully I shall at some point order a new batch of sheet film to take the Victorian plate beastie out too, although I suspect that will wait until the better light conditions of summer.

Later in the year I shall be off to the island of Rum, Inner Hebrides, on fieldwork. I shall carry along the 35mm rangefinder so we'll see what happens.

Two large format beasties are currently sitting in my room with hopes of resurection. The smaller of the two is a 4" by 5" aerial reconaissance camera, the Fairchild K20. This was standard equipment aboard all medium-large USAF aircraft of WW2. This particular example is without its magazine back and is awaiting conversion to sheet film. I plan initially to shoot star trails and the like with it.

The other is a 6.5" by 8.5" (full plate) RAF studio camera (Camera, Ground, Type S.4), unfortunately missing lenses, shutter, ground glass and plate holder. The first two I can rectify by turning it into a pinhole system. Sheet film holders are still around but pricey. Once I get hold of one it will be an afternoons work to finish this cameras restoration to usable standard.

Other messing about revolves around a few 100' cartons of 16mm cine film and a Keystone A-7 cine camera. I've decided to give the 16mm semi professional format a go and intend to shoot a 2-3 minute short on the mining landscape of Cornwall.News as and when it occurs.

So its business as usual really, keeping a motley collection of classic, vintage and antique cameras alive and pretty much single handedly keeping demand for 120 roll film going at my local camera store.

A positive attitude will not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort!
